Peoples calls for rate increase starting Oct. 1
Peoples Natural Gas LLC has filed an application with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission to increase natural gas rates effective October 1.
Peoples requested an overall gas rate increase of $11 million per year.
If the entire company application is approved, the total bill for a residential customer using 87,000 cubic feet per year would drop from $88.95 to $90.30 per month or 1.6%.
The PUC will review the requested rate change and may prevent existing rates from changing until it investigates and/or holds hearings on the request. The company must prove that the rates charged are reasonable. After reviewing the evidence, the PUC may grant all, part, or none of the request or may reduce existing rates.
