Four skaters from Nantucket compete in National Synchronized Skating Championships

(March 6, 2022) The 2022 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships over the weekend in Colorado Springs, Colorado had major island representation, with four skaters from Nantucket competing on three collegiate teams.

Freshman Amada Mack’s University of Delaware team finished sixth. Simmons University sophomore Maya Balling and Colby-Sawyer College junior Maddy Belanger of Team Excel, a Boston-based area college skating team, finished seventh, while Team Excel senior Julia Yancy of the University of Massachusetts finished 12th.

Team Excel won the 2022 Eastern Section Championships at Norwood. Delaware was second and UMass sixth.

All four girls learned synchronized skating as members of the Nantucket Skating Club’s Island Waves Synchronized Skating Team.
