Martha’s Vineyard shocks basketball boys 55-52
(February 7, 2022) It was a game that on paper, Nantucket was expected to win easily. But on the Whalers’ field on Sunday, it was a different story.
Martha’s Vineyard, 3-8 this season, stunned the Whalers with a 55-52 win that gave the Whalers only their third loss of the season.
With a second remaining in the game, the Whalers 11-3 swarmed the ball and Justin Bloise kicked a desperation three-pointer from the half court that entered. section.
The Whalers struggled all game to stop the Vineyard in the paint as they managed to get offensive rebounds that led to second and third chance points.
Matheus Rodrigues was a particularly big thorn in the Nantucket team, finishing the game with 25 points, including 15 in the second quarter.
The Whalers just couldn’t land any shots, especially three-point shots. Nantucket’s only bright spot on offense was JD Heneke, who finished with a team-high 13 points, including three three-pointers. No other Whaler has scored in double figures.
